Auditions Info
(NO Drama Club Meeting on audition day, just scheduled Auditions between 2:15 and 5:00 pm. Audition Schedule is posted below)
Auditions will begin at 2:15 pm, and will continue until everyone gets a chance, probably around 5:00 pm. Auditions will be scheduled every 5 minutes, so that we can see all the students that want to try out before it gets too late. Your child will be getting an Audition Contract to sign and bring with them to their audition.
Students should bring the music and materials they need for auditions. There is no formal format for the auditions, but we do have a rubric that we will share with the kids (and please see below on this page for audition tips and more guidelines). The Audition Judging Rubric is also posted below for your reference.
We will post the final casting by Sunday, January 19, at 4:00 pm on our website (under the “Drama Club / Cast and Characters” tab), and at school on Tuesday, 1/21/14 (in the breezeway). Finalized scripts will be sent home ASAP after casting.
We are encouraging all students who want to try out for a part to go for it! In drama club we will go over the expectations for auditions, and will coach the students on how to give a good audition (acting and/or singing and/or dancing). We also will discuss with them the reality that many students will be auditioning for the leading roles, and it is not possible for everybody to get their preferred role. While there are a limited number of leading roles, there are many supporting roles, and there are plenty of roles to go around. Every part is important to the success of the show, and they are all full of potential, and we encourage you to support your children in embracing the perspective that whatever part they are cast in, they can do it well, and enjoy contributing to the cooperative creation we are making together. We appreciate your support and understanding as we fit the skills and talents of the students to the parts that will help them contribute to the group and let them shine.

Audition Tips:
You should NOT worry about auditioning AS the characters you are writing down as preferences. The preferences are just to let us know what you think you would like to be, but your audition should show off your talents, however you can do that best! If you want to sing, sing any song you choose, with music or without. If you want to dance, show us your dance skills, to any music piece, or without music even. For acting, pick some scene or book or part of a movie that you can read or memorize, and that shows how you can get into character, and speak and use your body to act. All of these can be short, just a minute or so. Actors and Directors say that usually it is clear after 30 seconds what a person auditioning can do. So make it short, but powerful! Remember, the goal is to impress and WOW us! You can do it! Have confidence in yourself and give it your best! ;)
We will have a CD player, a stereo with a plug-in for iPods/iPhones and other devices, and an Ukulele and Guitar. Please let us know if you need anything else for your audition.

This site has some good tips about auditioning, and even has some free monologues for auditioning you could use if you need. Please note that these are for all ages, so please make sure that you are being an effective user of technology, and watch out for material that may be inappropriate for elementary school. But this could be a good resource for auditioning.
Remember, you don't have to audition as the character you would like to be, you just need to show us what you can do, using any acting, singing, or dancing piece that you choose. Just practice and prepare, and be confident! You can do it!
We are looking forward to seeing what you can do! Impress us! :) Good Luck!!!
